Brief Bio:

Perigate cares only about one thing: status.

During the time of Phantom Deeps, Perigate was permanently hustling for more spheres of influence.

They started off at Miramine, where they crawled up the ladder through cronyism, networking and sycophancy. (Miramine was the old mining company that used to be the most important company in Phantom Deeps, the old town that Phantom Peaks effectively supplanted).

After they had successfully infiltrated Miramine’s upper echelons, next was the Miners Co-operative, the aging Phantom Deeps Union.

It’s easiest to think about Perigate in this way: think about the person who was the second in command to the bully. That’s Perigate. Permanently status anxious and status obsessed. Always with the biggest and bravest kid in town. Naturally.

So when JONACO came to the fore, they quickly jumped ship.

As a reward for their loyalty, Perigate was was promised the highest rank in Jonas’ new system, partly as a reward for helping to smooth over the transition. They got what they wanted - the highest rank in Phantom Peak (though not the highest possible overall rank - ranks technically go up to 10).

They are, officially, the best person.

Perigate is a character that is not fully accepted socially in the world of Phantom Peak. They crave respect, which they have, but it’s borrowed respect: leant to them by their proximity to Jonas and JONACO.

There is nothing innately valuable about Perigate. They are just the barnacle on the side of the ship.

Naturally, they wield their self-claimed (but definitely untrue) proximity to Jonas, like a namedropped with a celebrity. They do know some of the secrets of Jonas - but not nearly as much as they claim.

Key Relationships: Lost friendship due to switching union, previously head of the Co-op now the head of the Jonas Union. Alienated any friends left.

Perigate is deeply intimidated by the Hat-Shop owner, partly because the Hat Shop owner is so naturally chaotic.

Rackshaw/Hat shop owner - Rackshaw is the Hat Tailor in Phantom Peak. They run “Phantom Peaks” The easiest and swiftest way to describe Rackshaw is that they are the final form of the conspiracy theorist. If conspiracy theorists had a final boss, it would be Rackshaw.

In many ways, Rackshaw is right. Lots has changed in Phantom Peak over recent months. A whole new town sprung up from nowhere with weird rules - and the old mayor died in mysterious circumstances.

Union Membership: Now head of the Jonas Union

Irrationalities: Fascinated by Diamant, wants to learn its secrets similarly to Jonas, but more from a wonder/awe POV instead of opportunistic. Status obsessed.

Thoughts On Old Mayor: “Very sad what happened to him.” Toes the line. Real feelings not really shared.

Thoughts On Jonas: “Jonas is a strong leader, he enforces and thats what Phantom Peak needs”
