Halloway
Matt Coyler
Halloway, The Phantom Deeps Undertaker, is a constant in an endlessly varying world: a rock in the fast-flowing waters of Phantom Peak.
Halloway sees themselves as a fixed point amongst they chaos: they treat the vicissitudes of Phantom Peak with a dry, wry humour. Deep voiced and meticulous in speech and action, they find the living and their various temporary problems deeply amusing.
Yet about the dead, Halloway never jokes: Halloway takes their role as the custodian of Phantom Deeps Graveyard extremely seriously, and treats the denizens of the soil with great respect.
Halloway stands quite apart from the rest of the various characters in Phantom Peak and Phantom Deeps - they see the JONACO / Miramine / Resistence things as awfully new-fangled. In the end, nothing really matters: once in the ground, we’re all the same.
Halloway is deeply fascinated by the paranormal - and has possibly dabbled themselves, though they’d never tell. Halloway never quite reveals whether they were behind the Blimp when the Blimp crashed, or whether they were merely out of town. Either way, they’re here now and they always will be: a shepherd between life and death.
